All people dropping off or picking up children need to sign children in and out daily using their individual number code. You will only have a code if you are approved to pick up a child by a primary caregiver. This information will be used in an emergency and is part of MOE regulations. If your child is being picked up by someone on your contact list please write this note on the child attendance form beside your child’s name. Teachers will also provide messages about signing forms or toileting needs required under your child’s name. Parents will need to sign the weekly attendance sheet also to confirm days and times.
Please let teachers know at the start of the day if you are not going to be contactable during the day and give an alternative contact number just in case your child is sick, injured or unsettled. Please make sure you keep your contact numbers up to date and inform teachers if there has been a change.
Preschool is a wonderful way for you and your child to make connections with the community. Your child’s friends help you get to know other families in your area and develop a feeling of belonging. We also provide opportunities through whanau mornings, parent discussions, our programme and environment allows time for families to interact.
All yoghurts, bottles and other items that need to be kept cool please place in the fridge box on the kitchen bench. Please name your child’s items. If they have chips or biscuits in your child’s lunch that you would like them to eat after sandwiches and fruit place these in the basket on the kitchen bench with your child’s name on them.
When your child starts
We encourage parents and children to visit the centre to look at what we can offer your child and meet our friendly staff. Teachers will talk to parents about the possible strategies for leaving your child over the settling period. Every child is different, (more information in your enrolment pack and Settling and Transition policy)(undefined).
We recommend that all children (over 2 years) attend 2 days or more as from what we have seen there are greater benefits for your child. They feel more confident with the routines, programme and develop stronger relationships with both teachers and other children. They benefit from practicing social skills, working in a group setting and managing a full day away from home which are all skills they will need for school. Children that only attend 1 day per week don’t get the same time to spend with teachers and other children to form relationships. This can reduce their confidence and involvement.
If your child is 3-5 years then they must attend 2 days or more.
